Re: What else can you do with an MEd?
    Posted by JL on 8/19/08

Sorry to hear about your experiences this really does stink!
One thing you could do is become certified in one of the
Orton-Gillingham methods such as the original OG method,
Wilson or Barton. It is also important to learn all you can
about Dyslexia. Right now in Ohio many intervention teachers
and reading specialists have no knowledge of dyslexia and
this is not getting them the jobs they need. Parents are
getting educated on dyslexia and schools are slowly accepting
this "forbidden D word" as real (it is real despite what some
have been taught). There is also a bill in committee in the
House and Senate that would require all schools in Ohio
assess and educate dyslexic students appropriately which
would be an OG method (research has proven this as best
practices). You can also become a private OG, Wilson or
Barton tutor (pay ranges from $35.00 to $70.00 an hour
depending on experience and where you live). I know many
districts who are in high need of people with strong
knowledge of dyslexia and the OG methods. This knowledge
could give you a leg up.

Let me know if you need any more info specifically and I will
    try to help.
