Improving Elementary Science Literacy through Writing to
Learn
June 15-25, 2010 plus academic year activities
Each offering provides:
An intensive 9-day summer workshop emphasizing hands-on
minds on science inquiry activities connected to Ohio’s
revised science standards held at Miami University
Middletown. Teachers will also model writing to learn
science to support student inquiry. The science behind the
activities will be emphasized and connected to the big
ideas in Ohio’s science standards to make your teaching
with inquiry easier.
Web assignments and a mentor to support you in your inquiry
teaching throughout the academic year
Two academic-year sessions: Saturday October 16, 2010, and
Saturday, May 14, 2011
Benefits include:
All tuition and most fees provided
7 semester hours of graduate credit* provided ($5,600 value)
$300 stipend* to cover out-of-pocket expenses
Course materials provided
Lunch provided; limited double-occupancy rooms available
for those outside the immediate area
*Credit and stipend awarded upon meeting all course
requirements, including completing a final project, using
course materials with target groups, and reporting results.
Graduate credit requires previous completion of a
bachelor’s degree from an accredited university/college.
