Re: Adding length to the school day and days taught
Posted by Linda on 6/15/07

Here's my opinion...for what it's worth: Primary children can
hardly make the day, as it is. On the middle school/high school
level, this would add between 7 and 8 minutes to each class. I
can't really see that this is the answer for our test
scores....Our kids "shut down" the first week of May. We try to
    1) make it fun 2) vary our teaching techniques 3) give lots
of "hands-on" opportunities.....but these students are
THROUGH!!!!! Adding a week to that WILL NOT improve test
scores....We start August 14th (the middle of summer)as it is....a
week WILL NOT make a difference, it will only add adjustment
    time.
