Re: Teaching in Oregon -- Eileen![]()

Eileen,
Of course, it is entirely possible that you will be picked up to teach
before the beginning of school here -- I am in Eugene -- just not very
likely. Again, let me stress, it is possible and depends on your area
of endorsement. I haven't asked the HR people where the need is right
now and wish I could give you some clue. Now, do you have an Oregon
license? You could still be hired without one if you are in a high
need endorsement area and no one else is available. The district can
help to expedite your licensure when an emergency situation arises.
Unfortunately, if you are not holding an edorsement in a high demand
area your chances of securing a teaching position in the Eugene area
are slim. There are so many new graduates to fill needs as well as
healthy pool of guest teachers to pull from as well. You may find
yourself guest teaching for the time being but you never know, perhaps
you will be a lucky one. I wish you the best and if you would like to
email me -- I have a lot of the inside scoop on subbing in the area's
largest district (NO KIDDING!) -- please do.
