On Saturday, October 14, 2006, Rhode Island College (RIC)
hosts two-time Newbury honor-winner, Patricia Reilly Giff.
Giff is the keynote speaker and at the Alliance for the
Study and Teaching of Adolescent Literature’s (A.S.T.A.L.)
6th annual literacy conference.
Giff will receive the 2006 ASTAL Award for Contributions to
the Field of Literature for Young People. ASTAL is also
excited to welcome back acclaimed author and lunch speaker
Patricia McCormick, author of Cut, My Brother’s Keeper and
Sold. The conference includes nine (9) workshops, which
focus on using adolescent literature in the classroom.
A.S.T.A.L., the Alliance for the Study and Teaching of
Adolescent Literature at Rhode Island College, is dedicated
to improving adolescent literacy. ASTAL is comprised of
teachers, librarians, and college students who are
interested in quality literature and the impact it can have
on young people.
Registration forms for the conference are available on
ASTAL’s website at www.ric.edu/ASTAL. Walk-ins are
welcome.
