The only word in your post that scares me is "entitled". Are you referring to a union entitlement? Because in Virginia, there is no "union". We are a right-to-work state. We are not given any "entitlements" in VA. We are given the choice to accept or reject a job offer without paying $400+ in union dues for the joy of...???
