Thank you for all the advice.

There ares so many laid off teachers willing to substitute in our
area in Northern California that it is difficult to get substitute
without experience. However, there are tutoring opportunities. I
will pursue them.

In Virginia there is a "Career Switcher" program, an accelerated
certification program for professionals. Do you know if there is
something similar in Maryland?
