I'm growing more and more impressed with Elizabeth Warren
too. She probably needs a little more experience though.

And *that* is the bottom line. Texas schools still have a
LOT of autonomy. Outside of the what to teach (the TEKS)
and a test at the end of the year to check the TEKS,
schools can do pretty much whatever they want in terms of
how to teach.
If teachers are really being forced into teaching a certain
way (I personally have never seen that) then that's a
district problem. If it is true that most teachers
and parents oppose whatever it is, then it shouldn't be
hard to change. School boards are elected and they hire
the superintendent. If a real majority pressures the
school board, stuff gets done. I've seen it happen in at
least three district.
