Educational fads or "pop.ed" have been around for close to a
century (all the new stuff came out in 1910, and since 1930 it
all got recycled). You think "Peer Learning Committees" is
anything new? or Site Based Decision Making is revolutionary?
The last real innovation to education was CMI, Computer Mediated
Instruction, some people would argue the WEB 2.0 was the most
recent, and if you buy into flipped classrooms or UTU "You Tube
University" I wouldnt disagree too much with you.

Traditional instruction is just old, anyone can direct teach,
can we save the lecturing for college. Thats basically what your
advocating. There is a LOT of research data to show that passive
learning is inferior to active or interactive learning.

Books, paper is dead, or it should be, and the sooner the
    better.
