The objectives of the programs from the Texas Education
Service Centers are : To control content of instructions;
To control teaching methods; To control when content is
taught. The CSCOPE objective of having Texas teachers all
on the same page on the same day is being manifested in the
PLC (coaching) program.
Teachers, if you have a PLC coach providing instructions,
let me suggest that when the cloned lesson plan for
teachers of the same grade and subject has been developed,
request the coach sign it. Since teachers are not given the
freedom to design lessons on their own, the person or
persons responsible for what is taught needs to take
credit.
In some schools, the PLC coaches are only having teachers
to stress what was on the previous STAAR tests. Thus, some
TEKS are mentioned so they can be checked off the "Do
List," but are not taught. The bottom line is that teachers
are blamed when students do not pass the STAAR. Teachers
need documentation that they are no longer in charge of
instructional materials taught, methods, or even when
content is taught. Contact me if you would like to provide
information to the public and remain anonymous.
