Well yes and no.
Legally, and technically as long as your certificate is valid of
course you can get hired.
The practical aspect is much more "grey". It really depends what
your district does as far as record keeping and what your
potential district does as for as verification. Districts are loath to
provide anything more than a service record, and PDAS.
However, Texas law allows them to send anything not
specifically excluded by law, most districts know they wont get
much so when they call HR they just ask if the person is eligible
for rehire. The other issue is what your districts policy and more
importantly your work practice is regarding a TINA or Growth
plan. You have two files basically a district file at central office
and a campus file with your principal. Whats in your campus file
may very well never see the light of day or be copied/forwarded
to the district. So if your principal put you on a growth plan and
just filed it in their office you be a non issue. If they sent it to
the district office it might never be requested or commented on.
The other issue is what are you going to do for a reference, your
principal wont give you one likely and if a potential principal
calls them up there really isnt anything you can do if they say
you were put on a growth plan, since its true.
It sounds like this was a threat, and not an actual growth plan?
I dont know how to advise you without more information. If you
wait it out and the school non-renews you, then youll have to
mark "non-renewed" on your applications from here on out. If
you resign youll give up any benefits and unemployment youd
be entitled too, and theres still nothing to stop your principal
from bad mouthing you.
