I've just sat through three days of the most depressing stories,
videos and lectures of my adult life. At a time when you would think
principals would be trying to gear us up in a positive way, ours chose
to pick out the most depressing stories of suicide, overdose, family
dysfunction to talk about the entire time. I get it that we need to help
students who are hurting, but honestly what about teachers who are
going through divorces, financial ruin, caring for aging parents?
Where is the empathy for us? I don't usually drink but I had to sit
down with a couple of glasses of wine just to settle down. Is this the
new normal that administrators are going to depress the hell out of
us in order to get their way?
