I'm an art teacher and I usually fill the last day before
Thanksgiving break teaching calligraphy. But what we
do with it is what makes the difference. I have every
student use calligraphy to write about something or
someone they are grateful to or for. It's never too
early to teach children an attitude of gratitude. Some
of the pieces are quite touching and others are frankly
hilarious. Although our students come from different
cultures, every culture embraces a concept of being
thankful. Maybe we should encourage that as a
bridge.
