How is your Spanish? In Texas elementary schools we
run bilingual Spanish programs, that is where the
demand is. In middle school and high school we run
resource programs where the ESL teacher is also the
students language arts teacher. You would either
need to have decent enough Spanish to teach in an
elementary bilingual program or you would need to be
able to obtain the Texas English Language Arts 7-12
certificate.
Houston and Austin, as well as Dallas and San Antonio
have plenty of universities churning out teachers, and
most of them want to stay in those areas. You are
more likely to find a vacancy in a smaller rural area
such as the valley or the border.
