I'm new to these forums and have a question - 'In your school's, do you have a 'policy' on how much the children should eat?

If they don't like/eat the healthy option for the main meal are they allowed to have a sweet dessert?

I'm having trouble getting through to some parents about their children's eating habits!

Positive person Food "issues" are generally control issues. Steve, leave it to the parents (who shouldn't have food control issues, either). Parents should provide the food for their children that they want them to eat--hopefully, HEALTHY food.

I have an occasional conversation (and I truly mean conversation, not a lecture) about lunch and what the student actually ate. That's it.

From my experience there is a huge variance in what adults believe is "healthy". I am talking about all adults, including teachers.

DonnaR/CA At the beginning of the year, at Back-to-School (Parent) night, I let the parents know that we have a mid-morning snack time. I mention that this is a good place for a healthy snack (but they ultimately decide on what's healthy for their child). The other thing I bring up: absolutely no sharing or trading is allowed. Normally, my classroom (K) has ...See More
