Creative ways to us a newspaper in the Foreign Language Classroom

I have gotten these ideas from various JET Programme Participants throughout the years. Enjoy!

1. Have the students read through one section of a newspaper as a group looking for words from their gNew Wordsh vocabulary list.
2. Ask students to read through an article and circle certain grammar points. e.g. circle all present-tense verbs, circle all the proper nouns.
3. Have your students write horoscopes in the target language. Good for future tense practice.
4. Have your students create their own newspaper(s). Assign one section to each group.
5. Have your students write an article for the school newspaper in the target language. A vote can be taken, and the best two or three article are then submitted to the school newspaper.
6. Have your students compare and contrast the newspapers from their native country and a newspaper from the target languagefs country.
7. Have your students create an advertisement in the target language for the newspaper.
