Native Americans
Day1:
Objective: 1. To instill appreciation of American Indians.
2. To promote interest in the history of the history of the American
Indians.

Pre-Instructional:
a. TSW sing "Ten Little Indians."
b. TSW act out "Brave Little Indian," an action story.

Procedures:
1. TSW tell what they know and what they want to know about Native Americans.
2. TTW discuss with the students Native American's way of life.
3. TTW show the student pictures of Native Americans.
4. TSW learn the poem "Then and Now."

Day 2:
Objective: 1. To promote interest in Native American Language.
2. TSW compare their language with that of Native Americans.
Pre-Instructional:
TSW have a Bear Race.
Procedures:
1. TTW tell the students about the ways Native Americans communicate.
2. TSW tell how their communication is different than Native Americans.
3. TSW learn the days of the week and numerals in Choctaw.
4. TSW learn how to communicate using Native American hand signals.
5. TSW sing "You are My Friend" using Native American sign language.
6. TTW read Dream Wolf by Paul Goble.
7. TSW answer comprehension questions about the story.

Day 3:
Objective: 1. TSW develop the understanding of the customs of the American Indians many years ago.
Pre-Instructional:
a. TSW sing "Ten Little Indians."
b. TSW have a Crab Race.
Procedures:
1. TTW tell the students about the Native American's clothing and food they eat.
2. TTW read Popcorn by Toni De Palo.
3. TSW answer comprehension questions about the story.
4. TSW discuss all the ways popcorn is made used.
5. TSW make an ear of corn.
6. TSW make popcorn.
7. TSW eat popcorn.

Day 4:
Objective: 1 TSW develop the understanding of the customs of the American Indians many years ago.

Pre-Instructional:
TSW play "Geronimo."

Procedures:
1. TTW discuss with the students types of weapons, crafts, and tools used by the
Native Americans.
2. TSW answer questions about Native Americans.
3. TTW read The Girl Who Loved Wild Horses by Paul Gobel.
4. TSW answer comprehension questions about the story
5. TTW show the students examples of their weapons.
6. TSW use Play-Doe to construct pottery.
8. TSW make a bead necklace.


Day 5:
Objective: 1 TSW develop the understanding of the customs of the American Indians many years ago.

Pre-Instructional:
TSW sing "Rain Song."

Procedures:
1. TTW discuss with students the types of ceremonies the Native American had
and what war was like.
2. TTW read Indian Two Feet and His Eagle Feathers by Margaret Friskey.
3. TSW answer comprehension questions about the story.
4. TSW make an Indian headdress and drum.
5. TSW participate in a powwow.
