This is a simple lesson plan for Prek that serves a variety of purposes. I thought of the idea during safety week. Simply draw circles of the same size on yellow, red and green construction paper. Write "Slow" on yellow, "Stop" on red, and "Go" on green. Make one for each child. Have the child cut the three circles out, and paste them onto black construction paper to make traffic lights. The plan teaches children to recognize circles, how to cut circles, the colors, and the important safety lesson of when it's safe to cross the street. The traffic lights may be dressed up by adding plastic eyes or hair. The children loved doing this, and it accomplishes several teaching aspects at one time. I made a traffic light and put it up at center so the children could see what it looked like, and discussed what signal each color meant. Hope you enjoy doing this. Anna
