Lesson: What We Read About

Lesson Objective: To look at current events and create an image that portrays the feelings brought forth by these readings.

TEKS: Art 1A, 2B, 2C

Contemporary Artists: Barbara Kruger

Vocabulary: Expressionist, social issues, no-print, lines, colors

Introduction: Discuss the emotions brought forth from the readings. Then discuss the elements in art that help portray these feelings ( ex: line, color).

Life Lesson: Looking at current events and how they affect us.

Activity: Students will create a no-print image by selecting one word that stands out in their reading, and illustrate that word with other images or abstract images created by themselves. Students will draw images and selected word on roofing paper with soap. They will than color and draw in images with prisma sticks and then run the image under water to reveal black lines.
