Materials Required: large index cards, lima beans and glue
Activity Time: small group instruction
Concepts Taught: letter recognition and formation

After introducing the letter of the week, reading books/poems and discussing the letter of the week, I give each student an index card with the letter traced on it. The letter is a block letter that I traced on each card. I use glue to form the letter on the inside of the block letter. I explain how they will place the beans on the glue to form the letter. After they dry, we practice tracing the letters. The students take them home. As they collect the letters that have been introduced, parents use them help their child practice identifying them.
