Materials Required: 5x7 ruled index card, pen or pencil, 2 transparencies & marker, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn.
Activity Time: 50 minutes
Concepts Taught: Building literary reference material.

Objective: To construct a literary reference card for The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn.

Instructions: Each student will be given a 5x7 ruled index card. With guided practice, the student will be able to construct a literary card that includes the title, author, setting, list of characters, main summary, thesis, theme, tone, dialect, and symbolism. Both sides of the card may be used; however, students will be encouraged to write small to allow as much detail as possible. Using the overhead projector, the teacher will model the student generated responses. The card will be used on future classroom assignments.
