Teacher takes a poem and cuts each line into strips.
The students take the strips and put it in the order they think it shoud go. Then they write it out on a large sheet of paper.
There should be various different ways a poem is written out.
Have the students begin a survey to learn which one sounded better to other students. (I placed them in the hallway and asked for students walking by to sign their first name on a sheet under the poem they thought sounded best).
We then read all choices, and the original, out loud and discussed how they used rhythm to make their poem work.
