· Lesson Introduction: We have learned all of the letters in the alphabet. We have also learned that some letters make more than one sound. What are those letters called? Vowels. Today, we are going to look at one of the sounds that "a" makes. What two sounds does "a" make? Repeat together the short "a" sound. We are going to learn about some words that have the short "a" sound in them. First I am going to show you some pictures and you tell me what they are. All of these pictures have the short "a" sound in them. Show pictures and talk about the sounds in them. The next activity you will do independently during your center time. You are going to use the internet to read Zac the Rat at Starfall.com. This story is going to show you different short "a" words. When you are finished with the story, you are going to make a circle map on as many short "a" words as you can think of.
