∑ Students will learn history of the game of Volleyball
∑ Students will learn and demonstrate proper technique of the Overhead Pass

∑ Lesson Introduction: Relate history of the sport of Volleyball

∑ Instructional Process (Place Internet activity within lesson structure.)
Activity #1: Introduce history of the sport of Volleyball. Find out what the students know about the organization and playing of the game. Notes: Keep in short. Involve the students.
Activity #2: Introduce the Overhead Pass. Teach the correct position. Toss and practice the Overhead Pass to self 1x and catch. Increase to 2x, then 3x, and then continuously. Notes: May use balloons, beach balls or volleyballs for those with very low skill level. Change activity often to keep interest. Emphasize control.
Activity #3: Toss ball to partner and catch returned Overhead Pass. Increase to 2x, the 3x and then continuously. Notes: Set distance limits. Have students change partners. Be sure to review cue words and have students repeat them.
Activity #4: Practice Overhead Pass over a net. Notes: May use yarn stretched across the gym for a quick net set up and to make larger area for practicing.
Activity #5: Notes:

∑ Homework or extension activity: Practice "Overhead Pass" at home by yourself or with a partner. Suggest you use a balloon, beach ball, or volleyball.

∑ Assessment/Reflection: Visual assessment by teacher
Peer assessment - ability to use overhead pass to target
May use Internet to have students look up history, organization of the game and definitions of key words.
