This is a Project-Based Learning where a student group researches, and provides a product meeting the objectives. Below is the handout that is provided to the students. It works for 40 min, block time, or vocational lab time.

OBJECTIVES FOR STUDENT GROUP
Any IT professional is going to deal with licensing issues, confidentiality issues, and intellectual property. For your protection, you need to understand the laws of intellectual property. Prepare a product that shows me your group understands intellectual property rights.

UPON COMPLETION OF PRODUCT, EACH STUDENT SHOULD BE ABLE TO
• Distinguish between the various forms of intellectual property rights (copyright, patent, trademark, trade secrets), the protections provided, how long protected, and how to obtain protection
• Define the scope of plagiarism and fair use
• Identify the rights related to electronic information
• Identify works made for hire contracts, licensing issues, confidentiality issues, and liability implications for failure to comply
