I feel as a sophomore engligh student it is important to put emphasis on students thoughts. I feel free writing is a great way to get students to write without having any barriers. Most of the topics in a free write are heart breaks or crushes. I have, therefore devised a plan, called tough love. What I had my students do is write about a heartbreak they experienced, this allows the student to get their thoughts across as well as allow them to understand that everyone goes through a stage in their life when things do not look so postitive. It has worked great for me and my students have opened up to my since, I have also seen a improvement in writing!
