Activity Time: 25 Minutes
Concepts Taught: Discovering New Words and Meanings

Each student is asked to search the dictionary for one word that they are unfamiliar with. After finding the word of their choice they have to make a sentence that uses the word correctly. Each word is wrote on the board and each student is asked to write down the sentence that was created and the word is to be highlighted. (The teacher can also choose to collect all words and sentences and write them or type them for the class and make copies.) This will then be the list of spelling words for the end of the week.
Try using these words throughout the week to make it a part of their vocabulary.
