1.) Reading the book "Saving Lily" will help students with the reading process.
2.) The students will work on the written language by completing a book report.
3.) We will use the K-W-L method at the start. Before reading the book, the student will need to access their prior knowledge about an elephant, describing whatever they know about the animal.
4.) We will list on the board what they want to know.
5.) After the book reports are completed the students will complete what the K-W-L and list what they have learned.
6.) Teach students how to make a webpage about elephants.

Methods/Procedure
Teacher Procedures/Development:
Explain to the students that the class will invite students parents and other people within the school. The class will present all of the projects that they have completed to the visitors in the class.

1.) Hang the three poster boards with the K-W-L on them.

a.) What the student already knows
b.) What the student wants to learn

2.) Hang a picture of the animal up so the students can visualize what they will be learning about.

3.) Pass out the book to each student.

4.) The students will have the entire week to read and finish their reports.

5.) On Friday, the reports will be handed in
and the third part of the chart will be filled
out.

6.) Have the students draw a picture of an
Elephant.

7.) Finish off the K-W-L board and ask the
students what they have learned
about the animal.


Accommodations/Adaptations
1.) Students with physical disabilities
might need a special pencil to be able to
hold it.

2.) We will get the book in Braille for students who are blind. Then, assist the student with the writing on the poster bored.

3.) Some students will require more time and that can be accommodated.

4.) Make sure that the room arrangement is right so that students can make their way around the room.

5.) Overhead projector so that things can be made bigger so that all students can see.

6.) Teach the lesson differently depending on the needs of the different students.

Assessment/Evaluation
The book reports will be graded to see if they have learned anything new about the animal and to check how their written language is developing.

Closure
Continue to learn about the animal and prepare extra activities that can be completed. Use any words that the students had trouble with and use those to expand their written language.

6.) Finish off with the K-W-L method by asking the students what they have learned.

2.) Being able to be printed in a larger text for
students who are visually impaired.

3.) Have a teacher's aide or in class parent to
read to the students that are blind, unless we

Assessment/Evaluation

The word exercises will be graded and kept to use for future reference to see if there is progress in the writing process. Also, the teacher will observe to see how well the students are managing at the computer work.

Any words that were trouble words from any student will be posted to be able to work on them with all students.

12.) Then have the student's draw a picture of a giraffe.

Place the diaramas out for display. Students can continue with the project and create another simulation of how the giraffes live. Extend the lesson with extra vocabulary words that can be used as a written lesson.

1.) Students will practice their writing skills by writing a short story.
2.) They will take the five animal pictures that they have drawn throughout the weeks and base the story on those pictures
3.) Then present their story to the school and the parents.
4.) As part of the unit and to combine all of lessons the students will complete a web quest. The web quest will consist of the students finding certain information about each of the animals. The elephant (food source), zebra (what hunts the zebra), giraffes (habitat), penguins and polar bears (what part of the world). The students are to find a picture to represent each of the following.
5.) The students can utilize the kidspiration software with their writing assignment. Also within all of these five lessons they can utilize the generating questions lesson plan to help them inquire about the different animals.
