Learning how to read a map is an important concept skill to teach elementary students. Using the local town map will help them put it all in perspective with familiar land markers to work with. Students will learn how to identify locations, create and use map symbols, understand map scale and develop a map of their own town or an imaginary one that includes map symbols and a map scale.
