WE TACKLED THIS FUN ACTIVITY AFTER COMPLETING OUR READING BOOK, WEATHER VANES I TOLD THEM TO PRETEND THEY WERE SELLING THE STORIES TO OUR FIRST GRADERS.

DAY 1 - PAIR CHILDREN IN GROUPS OF 2.
GROUPS CHOOSE FAVORITE STORY.
READ STORY.
LIST 10 INTERESTING POINTS IN STORY.
DAY 2 - BEGIN WRITING COMMERCIAL (ROUGH DRAFT). ENCOURAGE GROUPS TO THINK ABOUT COMMERCIALS THEY HAVE SEEN OR HEARD. AFTER ABOUT 45 MINUTES ALLOW GROUPS TO READ WHAT THEY HAVE WRITTEN AND GIVE THEM POINTERS ON HOW TO IMPROVE THEIR COMMERCIALS.
DAY 3 - GROUPS COMPLETE ROUGH DRAFTS AND PRACTICE COMMERCIALS USING THEIR COPIES.
DAY 4 - WRITE FINAL COPIES. MAKE ARTWORK FOR BACKGROUND USING ART SUPPLIES. ENCOURAGE THEM TO INCLUDE TITLE OF STORY ON ARTWORK. PRACTICE COMMERCIALS WITHOUT COPIES.
DAY 5 - BRING VIDEO CAMERA TO FILM EACH GROUPS COMMERCIALS. I BROUGHT A SHEET FROM HOME TO USE AS A BACKDROP FOR THEIR ARTWORK TO HANG ON. I FILMED EACH GROUP PERFORMING THEIR COMMERCIAL. WE INVITED THE FIRST GRADE CLASSES AND OUR PRINCIPAL TO WATCH THE VIDEO WITH US.
