Hi all, I was wondering if any of the veterans could clear up how the post allowance works. Is it a percentage of your total taxable income or take home pay after taxes? And does the post allowance amount get taxed as income? Trying to figure out how much money actually makes it into my wallet each month for budgeting purposes. Thank you!
haha It's mystery even to many/most of us. You can look up the "percentage" for each location here:

Bett I just finally got my letter of what I qualify for --- woo hoo I got LQA (it was a possible no for almost a month, but we're good now) --- and I saw post allowance on there. I have no idea what it is, but I'll take it! I'm so happy I can relax now that I know what I'm getting.

Bett Yep, I totally foresee lots more stress. Finally got the e-Qip sign in and finished that yesterday, now it's on to the gazillion other things I've got to catch up on. Same for you Oregonsip. but woo hoo progress on the process ... one step at a time.
