Just thought I'd share my experience.... between paying for visas for myself and my spouse, paying for temporary lodging and meals for us both for a month, and paying the rent upfront (because LQA hasn't hit my paycheck yet), I have spent over $10,000.... Supposedly I will be reimbursed, but it hsan't happened yet.... Just wanted to make sure all you hopefuls new what it costs and to start saving!

HelpOthers When you first arrive, you need to have enough on your personal credit card to cover the lodging and food for about the first month (for me it was $63/day for lodging and high end estimate for meals and incidentals was about $35/day for two of us and $80/day for four of us). SandArt Yes, LiteracyRocks, that seems like a normal amount. We try to not use credit cards, but we had to a little because we were low on money. We spent well over $10,000 partly because we bought a slightly nice car and we have a family of four.

haha $10,000 is a good ballpark figure. Ours was less with a family of 3 and that included buying a cheap older car (which is still running great two years later, knock on wood!).

Also, we got our first month's rent and realtor's fees back as a lump sum within a couple of weeks of filing for LQA with the remaining estimate of rent/utility cost...See More
