Looking for some sound advice, and I am hoping someone may have a little clarity on this topic.

I have lived in Japan for about five years, and I worked my way up to Assistant University Professor with my Masters Degree.

I am happy with my position, but it has always been my dream to work for Dodea Pacific. I recently took my Praxis II( in Osaka) and added my teacher experience to my Social Studies 9-12 teaching license that I recieved 6 years ago before coming to Japan.

I have uploaded all the information to the EAS Dodea system, along with the three required referrals from past employers.

I would really like an opporuntity to work at Iwakuni, or another base in Japan. I was wondering if anyone could help shed light on a few questions I had.

1. Besides applying to the USAJOBS website and waiting until something to match my credentials, is thier anything proactive that I can do?

2. I have my social studies 9-12 teaching license....See More

haha No problem. The lion's share of hiring seems to be between May and September although it can happen anytime during the year.

Although my parents and family members have an address in the the states, I think it would have to become a local hire. My current employer didn't ship my house hold goods over to Japan, or anything like that. I imagine, using my stateside address in my application would pr...See More

haha Fortunately, age is not a factor with DoDEA. Many teachers (much older than you, myself included) join DoDEA later in their careers.

As for being a local hire, yes you would likely be considered local unless you attempt to conceal your circumstances which probably not be advisable (and what would you do about your work experience for the l...See More

HelpOthers The downside to being a local hire is not receiving all the incentives to be here, but because you already live here without them, DoDEA feels no compulsion to provide them to you. On the other hand, after a couple years in one location, you might be able to transfer to another location within Japan but far enough away to obtain those incentives. G...See More
