My flight was booked on United Airlines. I called and talked to a representative today and asked what my baggage allowance is as a DOD civilian traveling on orders. The response is 5 free bags weighing 100lbs or less. Also, each dependent on the orders also gets 5 free bags of 100lbs or less. I certainly won't use my limit, but it's good to know it's available.

HelpOthers Section III, remarks 28 of your orders, specifies how much you get for HHG, UB, travel, etc. Everything is spelled out. Mine says,

29. Each traveler is allowed up to two bags of no more than 50 pounds per bag as checked luggage. Should the airlines charge baggage fees on either of the first two bags the fee will be reimbursed when the trav...See More

haha Never heard of the 5 bags. We have had very different results depending on the airline and the person working the gate. Sometimes we were given what was on our orders, sometimes they have been fairly nasty in pointing out that their policy of extra/overweight bags applies only to military.

HelpOthers Yes, if it says so on your orders, you have access to the Exchange and Commissary.

Also, if it is on your orders, you will be reimbursed even if the airlines do charge for your bags.
