Ouch! 5 preps. Maybe even 6 if the principal has a troublesome schedule probelm to solve.
It's easier to load 6 onto a new hire than some some complaining teacher with 30 years of seniority.
Don't be afraid to ask about the number of preps at the interview.

I've done 5 preps before. No problem! Should I contact the Principal directly, or wait for the luck of the draw through EAS?

You could contact the principal, but the general info is that they can't interview you unless you show up on their referral list for the position...
haha
Agree it probably wouldn't do much good, BUT it also isn't likely to do much harm at this point. If your name does show up an a referral list then an email might make your name jump out and at least get you an interview. If you are feeling bold, go for it.
