I have 16 years experience in education in NJ; therefore, I am vested in the pensions system. My salary is pretty good, but unfortunately I am the bread winner in the family and we can only pay the bills and not save. So, my career is going well here and if I stay it should improve ... but you never know.

I have an interview next week for a position with DODEA. I am only 43 years old, so I have at least another 20 years left in me; and I am more than willing to pick up and move. Is the DODEA system really the "brass ring" of education? My train of though is that I take the job (if offered) and do my best to advance as far as I can with DODEA. I just don't want to take a job, then subsequently find out that things aren't really that great. Maybe I am wrong to assume that working for DODEA is an incredible opportunity, but I'd like to hear first hand opinions.

Icanread I agree with Haha - the positives for us far outweigh the negatives. For the past year, we have been in a pretty good financial position, after leaving a teaching job in Arizona and now teaching for DoDEA. Do not work for DoDEA. They will not fund classes and the union will not to anything to help you or give you any information.
