I have a macbook running leopard. For some reason the mouse has started freezing and the cursor is up near the apple each time I restart it. I can't figure out what to do. Any suggestions?
Neal e.g. did you recently install or remove software? When did this start? What application are you using when it freezes? What flavor leopard, 10.5 or 10.6? Is your hard drive almost full? You need ~20% empty for virtual memory.

Have you done a command-s boot and run fsck -fy until it reports no errors?

Laura Thank you Neal! I did install Mac Office 2011 and Netprint recently. The freezing happened shortly after installing netprint (the software needed to print on the university printer) I am running 10.6 When I turn it on it freezes right away. Neal Often software is instructed to "phone home" right after an install. It launches an internet connection in the background to check for updates/registration. SOMETIMES this hogs resources until finished. If the computer crashes OR you crash/shutdown the computer before this script is completed it will continue to launch at start-up.
