I just started my first teaching job 3 months ago and I am already thinking about quitting. I am teaching first grade and I have 35 students. I have all of the problem children that the kindergarten teachers had in my room. Instead of separating them, I have all of the disruptive ones. It is me alone and I have an aide for 45 minutes. Discipline at this school is nonexistent. I have seen a big improvement in my class' behavior since I first started. I enforce our classroom rules and I handle disruptive behavior immediately. Five of my students have ADHD and only one takes medicine for it. One of my students may possibly have autism but he is in the process of being diagnosed. He screams in the middle of instruction, climbs all over the furniture and bites and pinches other children. Eight of my students are ELL but they receive pull out support. a plan Send out a letter to parents of the students in your classroom inviting them to volunteer some time in the classroom. As soon as a mom or two witnesses what is being done to you without administrative support they will complain loudly that their child should not have to try to learn in such an environment, and voila, the principal will find someone...See More
