I'm having a conversation with some people about what school counselors do, particularly at the high school level. Some think advising about classes to take and what to do after high school, and preparation for that is the main part of the job. Is it?

I've talked with counselors who say helping students figure out family and personal issues is where they spend most of their time, as well as consultation and collaboration with outside social service agencies. Is that unusual or commonplace?

What is a typical day on your job? Thanks in advance for any responses.
