Hello, Could someone please shed some light upon how I go about becoming a school counselor? I have been a classroom teacher for 29 years. I look forward to hearing from you. Thank you!
Your best bet would be to have a conversation with one or more of the thousands of school counselors who've been laid off in recent years because their services were suddenly deemed Too Expensive.

Mrs. F. The requirements vary by state. In Texas, we are required to have a masters degree in school counseling from an accredited program, two years of classroom teaching experience, a 200 hour internship (which may be changing this year), and a passing score on the TExES certification exam. Susanne The other thing I wanted to mention is for both of you. As a counselor you are usually required to also pursue a teaching degree. This would make you double time marketable.
