I teach in an elective area in a high school that according to state standards has classes that are tiered and have pre-req's. The only thing is, I have a curriculum supt. that told me today pre-req's will never be approved (we were trying to get aligned to state standards again in our course description book) as it "blocks" too many students from choices.

My whole argument is we never get as far as I would like to, because of all of the reteaching that has to occur. Not only that, but we are barely following state standards now in many areas in my department.

I no longer know how to make a come back, nor what to do, because I get "administrator speak" to anything I ask or point I try to make.

I am seriously thinking about leaving this district, because I don't know if I can be affiliated with such an organization anymore.......

Anyone have any advice? This is not my only district I have worked for, and past districts had really good alignment and w...See More
been there You are in a bad district. And guess what. If you don't inflate the grades, you are probably going to be fired. So you have to just pass as many as possible even though they don't deserve it or have a fight with administration, which you will lose. Can you go to another district?

And I'd say this - state standards are often a charade - they were written at the insistence of politicians pandering to the public who were clamoring for change in public education. So they had people write out standards - long, lengthy lists of standa...See More

jmak You must let administrators take responsibility for their actions. That means... go with the flow. You do what they want you to do. Another term for this is "submission". Good, bad, or indifferent, your administrator has made this decision and, as a teacher, you can let the chips fall where they may. Either deal with it, or move. Those are your cho...See More
