I have a question. How do you professionally deal with an administrator who move things around in your classroom?

This administrator has the janitorial / maintenance staff move things when you are not in your room (i.e. over winter break, spring break, etc.). The things that are being moved are large white boards, furniture - like the teachers desk, etc. Other teachers have complained that they have had their personal items (family photographs, student momentous, etc. put in a box and placed on their desks.)

This is the first and only time I have ever come across this as a teacher.

I gently asked the administrator why the things in my classroom were moved and was told that she had no idea She stated that she didn't instruct anyone to move anything. However, when I inquired to the maintenance staff (who are friends of mine) they showed me the notes she wrote to have the things moved.

I do not want to confront this person, as I have witnessed what s...See More

Do you mean she is rearranging the way it will be set up?? Weird! I'd move it back every time! No need to say anything, just put it back. You won't win with her if you confront her. > > This issue is not an "over the summer" cleaning thing. It goes > on during the school year. Judy2/CA I don't think I understand what is happening. Is she moving things around herself on the week-end? In one of your posts that's what it sounded like. But in another you said the custodians were doing it per her instructions as part of their work day. Our custodians don't work on the week-ends. They also know everything that happens at school so besi...See More

Yes, and yes. She moves things by herself as well as instructs the maintenance/janitors to move them as well.

I am telling you it is the strangest thing! I have only had a whiteboard moved and when I explained why I had it there, it was put back the next day.

Other teachers have had their entire room rearranged!...See More

Judy2/CA It sounds like a few cards are missing from her deck! I understand how frustrating this must be and don't have any words of advice. Hope it's something you can work around and get through the year. Any chance she'll retire?!?

anon for this I have seen this before, but not with furniture during the year. I had an admin who would go through and take down bulletin board borders if she thought they didn't match other things in the room, and things like that. I asked about it and she explained that the kids will notice if everything is together, even if they don't know they notice--so it ...See More
