I work in a 6th grade 12:1:1 class with 10 kids who have multiple disabilities. I have one child with autism, two with ADHD and the rest with other health impairments. The dilemma I am running in to is with my first period reading class. As you well know there is only one of me and one aide and there are at least five different levels of reading. I have tried to keep the others on task with a different projects while I work with a couple of other groups at a time, and I have also asked for any help I can get with anyone who may be available during that period, however none seems to be available. I have also thought about placing them into another class but their level of reading is just way to high for my kids. My question is then how can I come up with a true assessment based on my student’s ability when I cannot place them into proper reading groups? If you have any suggestions please help.
