Riddle me this? How does your school work on improving student growth? My school has adopted the policy this year to post every teacher's name and test scores on a wall for everyone to review. At the meeting today, comparisons and comments were made on who was the more effective teacher. End result ... the teachers left feeling dejected, unappreciated, not trusted, etc, In fact, no one's test scores have shown any degree of improvement that indicates that this is a practice worth the heartache stress, etc. Subsequently, what would be accomplished if I did this with my own students? What if I placed their names and test score up and reviewed the data as a class? Would they improve? No. Hurt? Frustrated? Yes.

In addition to this, there is a "teacher contest" being used at my school. This is were the admin will come in unannounced multiple times a day and evaluate the lesson on a rubric. The team with the most points wins a prize. Again, all this has achieved is to separate the ...See More

Wow - your administration sounds like a bunch of frat boys. How do people without any understanding of how people really work and feel get to be administrators?? The immaturity of their approach is really boggling - like their own mothers should be shaking their heads and going "Well, like does that work? You're doi...See More

Maybeme Coming from BC Canada, I realize that we do things a bit different from you (we are hired through the district, not by schools etc...). In our district - when school populations fall for whatever reason - the district usually makes a "Focus school" which then repopulates when parents send their kids there for the "special programs" offered. My scho...See More
