Any tips for how to keep students engaged in a combo class
when you're going back and forth with Houghton Mifflin?
I'm not allowed to use anything but this mandated
curriculum. I find that when I give them "What to do when
finished" assignments that it is irritating for them to
stop every time I come back to their group to teach them.
My transitions are poor right now...I don't have the
timing yet.

Debbie I will have a 1/2 for the 2nd time next year. School just let out today, and I'm already having dreams about teaching a combo. Yes, you get the nice kids and good workers, but it's such a juggling act to teach 2 curriculums. We have Open Court. Vinod My son just got put into a 2/3 combo. He's in 3rd grade and we are gravely concerned as a parent.

I'm not sure how or why he was cherry picked given that he's had speech help in the past and has had to work with a tutor the last year and a half so he could stay at grade-level.

Nicki-Teacher This class may acrually benefit your son. I am teaching a 2/3 combo right now. I have high leveld 2nd Grade kids and low to middle third graders. It is benificial to the thrid graders to get review of what they learned last year to help them bridge to the third grade content being taught. Michelle This is the first year teaching a 1/2 combo and I finally got classroom mangement down. I am have the same problem trying to teach both classes.
