I have a k student who was diagnosed ADHD before starting school. He is on meds.for aggression, which seem to work. He is never aggressive in school. He is very smart and is not having any academic problems, yet.

He stares into space and is unaware of what is going on around him. The entire class can line up and he will be at his desk, looking at the wall unaware that people have walked around him. He stops working and will be 3 or 4 problems behind the group, so I have him in my direct line of sight. We set up a quiet study area, thinking maybe he was distracted by the classroom noise. He is the only one who doesn't like to use it.

His parents took him back to his doctor who is recommending that he be tested for learning disabilities. The parents are angry and frustrated because "NO one down there is doing anything for him."

Does this sound like a learning disability?

I am open to all ideas and suggestions.

Thank you, BRTW

At the beginning of the year he took a lower dose, the doctor increased it after our first conference, after I talked to the parents about what I was seeing. He is a curious, talkative, normal 5 year old when he is not sitting in one place for more that a few minute...See More

BRTW I wondered about the possibility of seizures but no one one the team or the child's doctor have mentioned it. I will ask the team what they think.

Lacy1893 It truly sounds to me that he has ADHD. Not every child who has ADHD is the typical whirlwind of activity; but, their brains are still having the same difficulties that other "typical" ADHD people are having. Here is a wonderful tool, "Vanderbilt ADHD Diagnostic Teacher Rating Scale" that you can use to see if your student might...See More
