I have a question that is being bothering me for the last 5 years. I'll be short and brief on it, I teach middle school students that are mild to moderate ID. If for some testing reason, formal or informal, the speech pathologist dismisses them form the program. Sometimes, it doesn't happen very frequent, a year later parents come back and want to retest. Later, when we meet again for sp. testing results from the pathologist, the pattern seems that they don't qualify due to the fact that 1. They were dismissed and have reached their peak 2. They have a functional class that focus on their functional level. Is this the norm, usually, or is it just me? Does anybody have any input on this issue?
casey The rule of thumb has been that if the cognitive and speech scores are aligned with ID then services are no longer warranted. It happens quite a lot with middle and high school students.
