All, I am Learning Support Specialist for a k-12 school and have a 2nd grader who has periodic melt-downs and shuts off all rational thought and clicks into a rock-hard stubborn state where he refuses options for tasks, and ends by wrapping himself like a python around the leg of the desk. He does not usually respond to positive motivators or positive choices that would be standard for this kind of behaviour. Like "Which pencil do you want to use to do your math, the regular, or this coloured pencil, OR, if you feel really wild, this marker?" He will still say NEITHER! and throw his books and paper and hide under the desk. Suggestions?
