September 2002 Issue of Teachers.Net Gazette is Online
Provides September 11 Anniversary Help, Connection to Antarctic Operation, and More

SAN DIEGO, CA -- In the September issue of the Teachers.Net Gazette educators will find help for handling the 9/11 anniversary with students, learn how to participate in two-way communication with U.S. Coast Guard aviators stationed in Antarctica, and access dozens of teaching and classroom management tips for new and veteran educators.

Since March 2000, the Teachers.Net Gazette monthly webzine has offered stimulating and helpful articles contributed by experts in the field of education, including internationally known authors, presenters, classroom teachers, and school administrators.

Teachers and school administrators can consider classroom management plans offered in monthly columns by Harry K. Wong and Marvin Marshall. The September survey offers teachers' opinions on the topic, "What makes a truly great principal?"

Specialists and practitioners in the field of education technology offer articles about participating in distance learning courses and how to protect privacy in a technological age. Setting up learning centers, ideas for an effective open house program, literacy instruction, and how to make the most of the modern school library contribute to an impressive line-up of easy to read, but helpful and thought-provoking articles for all preschool-secondary school educators.

In preparation for the first anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, articles have been collected from Yale University developmental-behavioral pediatrician Dr. David J.Schonfeld, and from the National Center For Children Exposed To Violence. While targeted to the unique needs of educators during this anniversary, the information offered is helpful for dealing with any traumatic event to which children are exposed. There is also an illustrated list of books related to the events of 9/11 and the reprint of a moving poem, "One," composed following the September 11, 2001 attacks.

One unique feature of the Teachers.Net Gazette, is "Dear Old Golden Rule Days," a monthly, mostly autobiographical chapter by the teacher of a one room, rural Colorado school during the 1940's. Janet Farquahar's accounts of teaching sixteen pupils in seven grades make fascinating and entertaining reading.

Whether looking for philosophical pieces, light humor, classroom crafts, quotes, lessons, or practical tips, readers will find it available in each issue of the Gazette. The current issue is always posted at http://teachers.net/gazette. All back issues remain available at http://teachers.net/gazette/backissues.
