TEACHERS.NET RELEASES ON-LINE TEACHER STUDY DATA
SAN DIEGO, CA -- Teachers.Net today announced the findings of their on-line Internet teacher survey, conducted this winter on the Teachers.Net website. Over 1,000 teachers from every U.S. state and abroad, of all experience levels, responded to the six week on-line teacher study.
The study revealed that both new and experienced teachers alike are utilizing the Internet to improve their practice. The data show that more than 85% of website users are part or full-time teachers. While 19% reportedly have less than 2 years of teaching experience, over 21% have logged more than 20 years of classroom teaching experience. Over 75% of the respondents teach in public K-12 schools, while 7% work in private schools.
A full 92% of respondents reported to have Internet access at home. Teachers also reported that 79% of their schools were on-line, while only 36% had Internet access in their classroom. Of teachers who accessed the Internet at school, most connected for less than 15 minutes.
More than half of the teachers surveyed connect to the Internet on a daily basis. 57% of respondents accessed the Internet at least once a day, and another 26% accessed it more than once a week. However, about two-thirds of teachers who accessed the Internet from home reported spending more than 30 minutes on-line each day, and 30% reported to spend over one hour on-line daily.
Teachers.Net discovered that while only 10% of respondents reported to serve as technology coordinators for thier site, more than 30% of our teachers exercise considerable influence over site technology purchase decisions. Additionally, more than 50% of our users plan to buy classroom books and educational software within the next 12 months.
